When I switch from analog tv will I get more channels?
I'm sure most of you have been seeing those commercials telling you to switch to digital tv before 2009, and I don't have a digital converter box or cable tv, or satellite tv. So I was thinking about getting a converter box just to be on the safe side. and I was wandering, with a digital converter box will I be able to get more channels? And cable only channels?
Cable is totally separate from the switchover, and is not affected by it at all. If you already have cable, you don't have to do anything.
If, on the other hand, you use a TV antenna or aerial to watch TV, then you will be affected by the switchover. You will either need to purchase an external digital tuner for your existing TV, or buy a new TV that has the new digital tuner built into it.
One of the reasons for the switchover is to allow for more channels, but whether or not you'll suddenly get more channels over the air come February 2009 will depend on the TV stations in your area. You won't suddenly get cable stations (like Discovery) from your antenna.
