Gauge cluster shorting out?
I recently wired an LED (without resistor) into a circuit off the dimmer knob for the dashboard lights (dont ask why), and now it's displaying the error codes like service brake, airbag, esc, etc... Then it goes blank except for the gauge lights. I checked the gauge cluster fuse and it's just fine. HELP. I'm afraid to start my car.
The LED is doing a couple of things here...
1. Its changed the inline resistance on the circuit. The cars sensing this as a wiring fault or dead short.
2. The LED is a diode, which is a one-way "valve" for electricity.. so you're probably also messing up the data pulses.
Removing the LED should solve the problem and if it doesnt.. take it in to get the ECU checked, you may have damaged it.
